Perry Stone - Cudmore Practice

Well with the third weekend of practice over at Cudmore here’s an insight into how I have been getting on.

The Arena Pool for those who don’t know is a donut shape with the pegs on the outside. There are 32 pegs on it and in the Fishomania Final there are 16 pegs used so you have a blank peg either side. In theory a great situation, but with cameras and a fair few people behind on the banks that surround Arena its not that simple.

So the first week was interesting as there were an awful lot of fish caught shallow and not much else fed. I had a play around with various things but never felt it was sorted. I had really gone up the first weekend to ‘suss’ out the place and get an initial feel for it and that’s about as much as I learned. Back to Surrey and plenty to think about for the next weekend.

After a chat with Mark Murdoch who is the South East rep for Stewarts Angling Services I travelled up for the second weekend armed to the teeth with floats for the practice. I had J13A slapping floats which are very visual for fishing shallow and they will also hold up a decent sized bait. I also had J1 and J15S floats for margin and down the track fishing. I was booked in on the ‘ Maver Match This ‘ for the Saturday the main aim was to draw on Arena. Well I did manage to put my hand in the bag and draw out a peg on Arena but not probably the best area, peg 12. I managed a few and sorted a few things out in my own mind. I’d love to tell you some of the things I have sussed out right now but with the quality of field I think I better keep a few things to myself. All I will say is it seems to be carp fishing and hopefully some big weights which will suit my bagging style of fishing. Of course after the final I’ll be able to tell more and during the summer I will be doing a few articles about my favourite pellet waggler fishing where I assure you I will not be holding anything back.

Arena fished well and with three of the top four coming from Arena that was definitely food for thought. Well done to Jamie Hughes on qualifying from Milo Pool with a great performance and I also see he is favorite with the bookies at 13/2. I see I am 11/1 with the bookies so I will be having a few quid on myself.

So back to Surrey to reassess and this weekend back up to Cudmore with plenty more things to try as I am there for 5 days before the final for some fine tuning. I am confident in what I am doing but as I have said the quality of field is amazing this year so a good draw will be essential. All I can do is prepare myself the best I can and then see what happens on the day and if it’s my day then so be it.

I will update you as to how the next weekend goes and then its just a few days to the final. It has come round so quick.

Perry Stone qualifies for 3rd appearance in Fishomania Final

Perry Stone

Spro sponsored angler Perry Stone has qualified for the Fishomania Final at Cudmore Fisheries Arena Lake in July 2013.

Perry was drawn on Monks Lakes and set up to catch the resident large carp on the method feeder fished at 80 yards. Even on a windy day Perry was able to keep the fish coming and ended up with a fantastic 207lb 14oz of mainly carp. Obviously we are delighted to have Perry in the final and we will be giving Perry our full support in his attempts to take home the trophy. In the lead up to the final we will get an insight into his preparation and how practice is going.

Good Luck from all at SAS
